Just in case you all didnt know, shooting at the airstrip at the end of KGB is illegal. I found this out today. Its actually a Federal offense. Since the strip is owned and operated on a Federally paid for state program, you are not allowed to even be out there without proper permits, and no guns are allowed out there. A trooper was out there with his lights on turning people away today. I went out for a nice warm day of shooting (was gorgeous out BTW), when I came across him at the end of the strip by the water. He was already reprimanding a guy out there. When I pulled up, I assumed some shit was going down. So I waited to talk to him to see what was going down.

He informed me that it has been and is very agaist the law to be down there. This is new information to me. I had no effing idea. He said there had been a No Shooting sign posted for years. Maybe thats true, but on my way out, it seemed to be the only new sign with no holes in it. So, I call BS on that. But who knows. But he said that they will be down there as will the state, taking pictures of all rigs out there and their license plates and turning them over to the troopers. BE AWARE. I would strongly advise you NOT to go to the strip, you CAN HOWEVER go down to the sand bar on the beach, since its not Federally controlled.

Im just throwing this out there because I know alot of us go down there, and I do not want to see anyone with either a ticket or a court date about this bullshit. Welcome to Obamaland, all conservatives get off the fucking bus. You arent allowed here. Just a warning basically. Thats what I got. The only reason I got off with one, was by maintaining a cool head and not being a smart ass. He eventually stopped treating me like a criminal, and started being a little more friendly and let me go on a warning. I hope you have the same luck if you decide to go out there.

wow... that is rediculous. Just last summer I (Along with a few others... eh em' Goerge and Al) was down there when a trooper rolled up. He did not bust any of us... and there were atleast 10 people down there in there differnt groups shooting.
He said "Carry on... just wanted to make sure no one was drinking, etc., he was also training a rookie supposedly).

Good info none the less, and technically, thats true. It has not EVER been enforced, and its sad that it is being enforced all the sudden.

Most will continue to shoot down there... and if they get pushed out, will just go somewhere else, probably a less safe, and sureley a less secluded area than the airsttrip.

Interesting read....I know a couple local pilots in the area so I will ask them about the runway. I dont ever remember seeing signs out there when we went shooting at the bluff but that is not to say they are there. As stated before we have been out to that area a few times to shoot...its nice and close to the house.

Here is a link about the "Airport" if you want to call it that with the property manager name and some phone #'s

Probably has to do with the new terriorst plans that their now enforcing it.

I could see some issues with shooting at the end of a runway. People shooting at planes and what not..

That sucks though.

Patrick... did the cop say anything about the boat launch? Since its all on the same land, I'm sure technically its still ilegal... but I don't see cops getting a patrol car down there...

well, i dont know how long the "no shooting" sign has been up, but its been up for at least a few months. my friend was told by an officer that you only had to go 1000 feet from the airstrip and we would be fine. not sure if thats the law, or just a recommendation to keep us off the airstrip. either way, we turned around and got back on kgb road and took a left (or right if your going to the airstrip) on cameo dr. and followed that for about a mile (keep right at the fork) until we took a little trail off to the right of the road (right before the pond) and followed that for a little ways until we got to another popular little shooting spot. not the greatest spot, but it works.

its real easy to figure out if you go into google maps and type in "goose bay airport". the pond is about a half mile west and slightly north of the airstrip.

Sorry Tony. Yes you CAN shoot down there. From what he said, the strip is what he was concerned about. We aren't even allowed to drive out there now (or maybe it's always been that way). But we went around the end of the strip and down to the beach and shot it up with about 5 other folks that were turned away also. No one ever came down or said anything.
