We are planning a run to the Pinnochle-Hicks trail for Friday the 4th (Not this weekend, but the next). We are planning on coming out Sunday, but may come out Saturday depending on conditions.
The trail head for this is about 10 miles passed the trail head for Boulder creek.
This trail, which I have not been on, is said to be fairly difficult. There are some swamps, some hills, and some creek crossings. We plan on taking it into the Caribou Creek headwaters and exploring a bit back there.
If you want to go, make sure you have a winch, or atleast very good tow points. Also, 38"+ tires is recommended. Extra fuel will also be required.
Quads are welcome, and preferred if you don't have a reliably built rig without the reccomended equipment for this run.
I'll keep this thread updated with plans for meeting times, etc.
You suck wait till the 4th of Sept.:frown5:. If not have fun and let me know how it goes. We still need to plan something for Labor Day weekend:cheers2:

Sept 4th? Thats practically winter time, especially up that far. How about, if its super bad ass, then we will go back up? George, you guys picked a bad time to leave state... make sure next year you plan this trip a little better around wheeling season :hand:
Start coming up with something for LD weekend.... I'll be down for probably wherever.

This is a report I got from a group that went up this last weekend. Sounds promising, but maybe an awfully long drive for a jeep trail with a sketchy hill... ?
Dry as a popcorn fart! I couldn't believe how dry it is, only took an hour to get to Hell Hill. Hell Hill on the other hand is nasty, real slick. It's not muddy, just slimy. Two of the three rigs made it up real easy, The rig that didn't make it wasthe 'Ugly buggy'. Blazer frame, poop pipe, stock 350, 44"x 11" tractor tires, open in the front. If you have some HP, and locked in the front, shouldn't be a big deal. There are some winch points in a few spots going up the hill. After the hill, it's an easy trip to Caribou Creek. Get tp the Creek, go left and it goes for miles. I honestly think a stock XJ, open front and rear, with 33's could make it back there no problem, except Hell Hill. It was sunny all day on Saturday, but rained all night, overcast on sunday. The person who took all the pics is still in Eureka. I have some good video, but my computers in the shop, I'm using my work computer now. Have fun.

We're down to three rigs, and a few 4 wheelers, for this run (Nate has some redeeming to do this weekend so he's out). It would be nice to get one more "Bigger Rig" for this run. If you've got 40s-ish tires, fullsizeish, and lockers/winch, WE WANT YOU!

Yes, however, that is not what we are trying to do. This will be more of a liesurely trip, possibly some hunting, and to get out on a new trail.
what day and times for this weekend
Times haven't been determined yet, but we are hoping to leave Friday afternoonish (5 or so), and come back late Saturday or Sunday, depending on where we make it to.
There is a lake called 100 Mile Lake, that supposedly has some good camping areas, however, its near the beginning of the trail.
We may camp there Friday night, head out Early Saturday for the rest of the trail, camp, head back out early Sunday... its all still kind of in the air. Its going to depend on weather, and how far we make it on Friday.
The guys who went last weekend, said they were at Caribou Creek 2 hours down the trail... so if we have that kind of pace/luck, the camping places and times will change.... but again, The only thing that seems to be known for sure is that we are leaving on Friday, and coming back Subday....

Change of plans. Because this seems to be bad weekend for me now as well, we are putting this off one week.
This has been put off until next weekend.

hey Tony i recently did that trail with my rhino. if its raining real bad consider shelter and some anchors to winch from, all except one and its not in very deep anymore are gone that nick and his buddies sank in a few years back. other than that its in good shape. and dont worry about trying to make this trail connect to boulder, its impossible to do unless your on foot. ive hiked all over back thereits Gods country for sure. if the hill is nasty be prepared i have spent a night down there before. there used to be a camper at the bottom of the hill but some idiots on snowmachines got stuck down there and for some reason thought it would be a good signal fire (seriously)

Thats good info, thanks. We may bring stuff to make anchors with. I saw Johnnys picks from last weekend, and it didn't look too bad. They all said that with a locked front end and good bite, we shouldn't have a problem, but again, we are going prepared for the worst... :driving: If its raining, we'll just wait it out if it looks like its going to be too sketchy.

After a closwer examination of the Regs regarding the GMU for this area (13A), it appears moose does not open until Sep. 1st. One of our goals for this trip was toget some hunting in, and we are still a weekend short.
So...
This has been put off AGAIN... for the following weekend (Sept 4th). :beatdeadhorse5:

HEY! IF the trip has been 'delayed' until 9/4 I could be able to make it.
But it looks like I am going to be buying a winch sooner than I thought! :ihih:
Might as well make a list of required gear so I can start shoppin!! :drool5:
But I'm only good for one night ... (jeeps can't haul much and I eat and drink alot!!)
If you don't have a locker up front with some good meats, then a winch will be mandatory. Also, if you have any line extensions, I don't think it would be a bad idea to bring them.
If its just a gear hauling issue (As far as just going for one night), there will be plenty of room for extra coolers/bags, etc. I guess Britney has to work on Sat. a tthe fair, so I think Cody is only planning on staying one night as well. The rest of us will be staying until Sunday.

winch is small but could pull me or another light vehical need to up grade some stuff i know:confused5:

So is there an 'official' vehicle count of who is going?
Err does a jeep qualify as a whole vehicle? IF so then put me down as 1. Defenatly going wheeling somewhere and unless this trip changes to another week-end, this is my first choice. Even mounting a winch for the 'hill'!!
winch is small but could pull me or another light vehical need to up grade some stuff i know:confused5:
So far, we have about 2-3 four-wheelers, Nate, Rich (Possibly), the other Nate, myself, Jeff, Cody (Pos), ... thats who I know for sure is going.
As long as you've got a winch, you should be ok. We are going to try and bring anchors with us for the hill... so if you have potential material to use for that, post up as well.

Thanks man. We're going well prepared so we shouldn't have any serious problems (Then again, there are jeeps going so... :skep:).
We have a GPS track of the area, and that should keep is going in the right direction. We do plan on doing some hiking/hunting while back there as well, so i'm sure we'll be exploring a bit.
Sorry you can't make it man, the weather is supposed to be great too...:drool5: If you change your mind, or decide to come up later, the radio will be on :bigear:
