Just for sh*ts and giggles I figured I'd start this debate.
I love offroad trucks, but I love quads too. I grew up playin with both the atv side a little more though. I personally think the two are equal in there overall pros and cons of trailability. But there one thing that a truck could never ever touch a quad on. And that is time vs distance traveled.
And there is one thing that a quad will never have on a truck and that is the sound of a american V8 wide open through some mud or up a steep incline.
So there's my first .02 cents

an atv does not even touch a well built truck, i mean use water crossings for example, try a 2' deep creek on a ATV no thanks, and if it starts raining or snowing that really sucks. and the capacity of the truck and fuel range vs a wheeler makes it a much better hunting rig. you just need to build a rig with some better floatation and you can cover alot of ground pretty quick. lighten up that ford and you will see a big difference or get a bigger tire.

Water Crossings. Unless you have some kind of something special built, it will always be the downfall to ATVs...
Both definatly have there place, but its pretty hard to beat a nice warm cab when its 12-1AM and you haven't gotten to camp yet to setup... but are in route... and then it starts raining.. and its windy.... sucky days on an ATV...lol
Hauling Gear for long range. Unless you are draggin a meat wagon full of supplies (Which sucks), it's pretty tough to pack 5 days worth of stuff on to an ATV. I'm not saying it can't be done, but makes for a most uncomfortable 5 days.

One thing not mentioned here is...........WTF is your hurry??. I dont know about you but If I spent my time in the back country hauling ass as fast as possible on a quad I'd miss the 80% of the reason why I'm out there in the first place..........TO RELAX and SLOW down a lil bit from my already fast paced life with work, kids, bills etc etc. So in NO WAY am I looking to finally get out and relax and fucking worry about how fast I have to travel to get to a certain spot. Fuck that, low range 1st or 2nd gear creeping along watching the scenery, picking my lines, listening to the whining of the gears and watching the mud and rocks being swallowed by my swampers. NOT to mention I cant take my 3 sons with me on a quad to enjoy the scenery as much as I do and teach them about nature and wheeling. Just my .02. AND I am very experienced on quads and I do love them, BUT if I had to have just one, it would be my Truck.

Preston... you should just keep that truck. It's built well, and seems to be pretty reliable. ATVs have there place... but its hard to beat all of the positive aspects of a reliable, capable 4x4.

No, this is not a fact of trying to get somewhere in a hurry. It is trying to make it as far as time allows. Yes there is no sound that could beat a big block revving while in low range. I know for a fact there is no truck in Alaska that can keep up with a descent quad up a trail like Buffalo Mine or B-29. I did not just bring this topic up for myself, i've already made my mind up, I just know that this is always a good and touchy subject. Like I said both have there good and bad attributes, and i could argue the hell out of both sides. In the end it is what your feeling at that certin time.

I dig the ATV side as long as my path is clear of deep swift water. I have no prob with being on the move in a section of trail that I have covered many times. Most of my trips are made up of pushing even further than the last time I was on that trail. Exploration can be made easy & a big cheaper when the "conditions are good". IMO, TRY them both some time & be safe. Last summer I even put in some time on a Razor & it was like driving a compact jeep.:cornut:

besides for me if i'm with family its sloooowww and steady. If I'm with friends its about getting somewhere and playing or chilling around a fire. a comfortable ride, some fitting music, cold b... umm, stuff to drink... Either way its almost always with someone else, and i enjoy their company free of any distractions. I guess for me its about the experience, not so much the ride if that makes sense....

It's nice to get out and do both. I only wish we had more summer days to split them. I enjoy taking the Jeep out and the Ranger......not that there is really much of a difference.
Getting out is key. Wheeling, relaxing by the campfire, and a safe trip home is pretty much all its about.:D
