13 AAC 04.005. Disconnection or Alteration of Equipment
(a) For a vehicle intended to be operated on a public roadway, no person may disconnect or alter, except as is necessary in the repair or replacement of parts, equipment required by this chapter, unless the equipment is by nature designed and intended for disconnection or alteration;
(b) No person may operate a motor vehicle upon a public roadway which violates the following limitations or prohibitions:
(1) a motor vehicle may not be modified or altered from the original design so that any portion of the vehicle, other than the wheels, has less clearance from the surface of a level roadway than the clearance between the roadway and the lower most portion of any rim of any wheel in contact with the roadway;
(2) a motor vehicle may not be modified to position the lowest portion of the body floor more than three inches above the top of the frame, or to result in a maximum frame height or body floor height greater than 24 inches for a vehicle of up to 4,500 pounds GVWR, 26 inches for 4,501 - 7,500 pounds GVWR, or 28 inches for 7,501 - 10,000 pounds GVWR.
(c) No motor vehicle may be operated on a public roadway that has been modified, altered, manufactured, or is carrying a payload in a manner which adversely affects the steering, braking, or stability of the vehicle.
(d) A vehicle operated on a public roadway that exceeds the minimum or maximum specifications of subsection (b) must be in compliance with this section by 3/31/93.
(e) For purpose of this section
(1) "frame" means the manufacturer's main longitudinal structural members of the chassis of the vehicle, or, for vehicles with unitized body construction, the lowest main longitudinal structural members of the body of the vehicle;
(2) "frame height" means the vertical distance between the ground and the lowest point of the frame midway between the front axle and the second axle on the vehicle;
(3) "GVWR" means the gross vehicle weight rating as defined in AS 28.40.100 (a)(9);
(4) "payload" means anything added to a vehicle that increases its unladen weight.

Glad I just ran across this! I got pulled over a couple days ago for this... and anti-spray devices... and window tint... and coffee cups in the bed (Unsecured load apparently:shocked: ). APD near the airport = bad mix. Officer was actually alright. Just warnings after he figured out I wasn't a hoodlum. Gotta measure my truck when I get home now though. Curious:sifone:

so after reading this...I'm understanding that my 3" body lift will be illegal. If you add the 3" body lift puck, plus the 1" body bushing, plus the 1/16'-1/8" thickness of the metal bushing, I will be just over 1" illegal...as will anyone with a 3" aftermarket body lift. Sound correct???

I think it would depend on where the "floor" is in relation to the frame... but the way I read that, is that the "Floor" of the body cannot exceed 3" above the top of the frame... so if you're floor was an inch higher than you're frame at stock hight, than a 3" body lift would technically be in violation of that law (b-2)

Thats the way I read it too. Oh well. Laws were made to be broken. That means anyone with a 2" body lift would be illegal as well because the bushing is 1"+ thick, and the "floor" of the body is at least another 1 1/2-2" above that where it actually goes through the bottom of the body. See pic the head of the bold is down inside the hole at least an inch and a half or so.

Pretty sure I'll be doing some trimming as well. We'll see what size tires I end up going with. Gotta rid some of that cancer as well. I just got it cheap and got all excited about getting the thing up off the ground

Ive been pulled over for lift once. I rode Black Betty around (11 inches total) and out of the numerous time I was pulled over, they never said anything about the lift or 42s sticking out the sides.

Now, when I had a short bed truck on a 6 inch and 35s (with straight pipes, lol) I got pulled over and the cop was a dick. Stay out of Palmer. He didnt like me, and wrot me a ticket for being over height. I got the law, printed it out, got a tape measure, and took it all down to him at the station. He was pissed, but had to throw out my ticket.
