Hey as i get money for mods i put them on the truck, the overall plan is to have it where it's somewhat capable off-road by spring, seeing as how I am planning on using it as a tow rig for anyone who needs a tow when the break and alson thats when most of us like to go wheeling. Right now its pretty much a stock '99 7.3 powerstroke. All I have done to it is a tymar intake. Next on the list is a 5" MBRP turbo back exhaust, edge evolution cts or dp tuner, obviously gauges (to monitor boost, egts, and trans temp), leveling kit so i can fit 35s all the way around and keep it looking good while maintaining the ability to go off into a trail alittle ways if need be. I dont have a trailor as of right now but know plenty of people willing to lend a trailor to me if need be.

does yours have the 3.73 rear or the 4.10's? i have heard the 4.10's are sweet with 35's. i want to go up a couple tire sizes but i only have the 3.73 and i dont want it to cut into my towing power and MPG.

Ryan Mine has 4.10 in it you will have to ride in it to see if you like it.. is really not that much of a diff. per say. I have a leveling kit and toyo 35's runs about 2k at 70

see mine runs about 2k at 70 with 265's with the 3.73's. i would love to throw 35's on mine but i wish i could keep it at 2000 at 70 to keep it in the powerband.

Isn't yours a 6.0 too dan? the powerband is a little different than the 7.3 isn't it?

yes mine is a 6.0 and yes the power band is way different.. I dont think you need to worry about your powerband on your 7.3 unless u are under 1800 or so.. just depends on what mods you plan on running.. my last 7.3 ran about 1750 @70mph and got great mileage.. had 37s on it and a 6 speed manual.. just depends i think i am a little low geared for my liking but hey its what i got. if i had diff. gears i could get a little better mileage who knows..

I have 3:73 and run 315's (basically a 35) I am taching about 1750-1800 at 70 MPH, get great milage empty with that (18-20) and it pulls the buggy just fine grossing 23,000 on average for a long camping trip. It is a Cummins (different torque curve) but i would think you would be fine with 35s on your 7.3, especially if you plan on opening it up a little bit.
Had a buddy with 97 7.3 ran 285s with 3:73 pullng a 35' camper- Grossed around 22k and he had plenty of power, he had 4" exhaust, Tymar intake and mild tune.

For you Ford guys call Jim and Northern Diesel Performance, he is local in ER and has a good bit of stuff in stock (intake, exhaust, etc) He really knows the 7.3 http://home.gci.net/~northerndiesel/

Dan-
so you had the 6 speed with 3.73's and 37's? how did it tow like that? i always feel the powerband on the 7.3 is from 2k to 2400 seems to be where mne pulls best. we will see if that changes with the new HPOP, injectors and other goodies i have to put in....

Jason-
that is good to know i was actually looking at some 285/70-17 the other day on craigslist that got me looking to bigger tires. pronlem is now it likes to tow at 70mph better than it does at 60 cause 6th is right at 2k at 70, i can only imagine with 34-35" tires it would be 80+ where it would be most happy but i guess then it would put me closer to right RPM on the hills in 5th.

I guess there is only one way to really know for sure....

my 6.0 with manual came with 4.10 and it was ok at best when chipped it was fine but prior to that was a pooch until it came on then you could not shift it fast enough.. my new truck was a dually and I converted it and put 4.10 rear end under it out of a v-10 truck it is good and it is head studded and egr deleted. I do like it just think that it would also be fine with 3.73s my other truck I sold was a 99 big turbo waste gate bypassed and stock tune with my 37's off of my truck that I had up here.. it was great empty loved 80mph and averaged wonderful mileage.. However was a bit of a turd when grossing 20k again it was stock.. drop a gear and go was all I needed until the big hills.. I really dont thing you are going to notice a huge difference between a set of 33's and a set of 35's except the weight difference of the tire I always run Toyo mt's and they are heavy. that is just what I know.. the over drive in your 6 speed is less than that of an auto as well.. :21:

That's good to know. I am leaning more and more toward 35's with a little leveling kit. So you got a dually now dan? Where are the pics of that?

to be honest with you ryan i believe that i have the 3.73s because with the 265/70/r16s i am also running about 2k at 70

Sounds about right. Then you should go get some 35's and tell me how they feel with the 3.73's.

ryan just dont put 37s on it with 3.73s especially with a auto i can still haul but you can definatley tell when you have a decent load behind it. If you have 16in rims i have 2 285-75-16s in good shape if you want them and one on a superduty rim.
